المقدمة

This course attempts to provide the student with the basics of the man-biological aspects of health. It there for focuses on the importance of understanding behavioural aspects which will undoubtedly provide the main clues to understanding the psychopathology and social pathology inherent in the aetiology of the condition as well as its course once it is under treatment
Evidence is accumulating, indeed, that man's social environment is a component in the aetiology of nearly all diseases which doctors are called upon to deal with, and that the outcome of treatment depends equally on how favourable that social environment is
Thus the course is based upon the realistic assumption that the doctor would not confine his role in the treatment of disease entirely in their organic mainfestations, and that he would become aware of the way in which man's social environment, interesting with his genetically determined constitution, contributs to reverse or control these states
In all your activities as a doctor you are going to meet people who may be patients themselves, relatives of patients or members of the community. They may be able to communicate with them is one of the fundamental skills a doctor must acquire. The doctor must be aware of the social and psychological factors which influence illness, and illness behaviour. They understanding of these factors is of great importance in ensuring a good relationship between a doctor and his patient. The patient's demands from the doctor and the health services and the doctors expectations from his patient might not all be fulfilled, and this is bound to affect the doctor-patient relationship
